Volunteers Week 2026 : Celebrating the Volunteers behind ODAF

Meet our Volunteers at Orkney Dance and Fitness

Did you know that 14.2 million people in the UK formally volunteer at least once a month?*

That is certainly an impressive number of people, but what about the faces behind these statistics?

This Volunteers’ Week (1st-7th June), we want to highlight and celebrate the fantastic individuals who volunteer at Orkney Dance and Fitness.

Since our launch, we’ve grown from a one-person project to a community-led team of instructors and volunteers with a shared passion for health and inclusivity. We currently have 7 volunteers on our board as well as other amazing volunteers who help make teas & coffees, clean and fix equipment and do other jobs.

So let's introduce our wonderful volunteer board, including some fun facts. . .

Angie, Orkney Dance and Fitness Volunteer

Meet Angie, she's our Health & Safety volunteer and director. . .

"I joined ODAF as I wanted to regain fitness and lose weight as it was affecting my health. ODAF is all about community, bringing people together and enjoying the social aspect of fitness.

Fun fact: My eyes are different colours! I'm in the 1% of people who have Sectural Hetrerochroma."

Liz, Orkney Dance and Fitness Volunteer

Meet Liz, our HR Director. . .

"I decided to volunteer because going to classes really helped me, and I wanted to support Donna and take some of the admin and paperwork off her hands to free her up to develop the enterprise.

Fun fact: I’ve been a fan of Donna's can-do approach since she was running aqua aerobics classes at Stromness Pool before ODAF was a twinkle in her eye!"

Tracey, Orkney Dance and Fitness Volunteer

Meet Tracey, our Finance Director. . .

"I started volunteering at ODAF because I wanted to get involved and give something back to the community after I moved up.

Fun fact: I love taking part in mud runs, dirty dozen dash, warrior challenges and have run London, New York and Dublin marathons as well as several half marathons."

Bev, Orkney Dance and Fitness Volunteer

Meet Bev Clubley, she's our Chair & Governance Director . . .

"ODAF offers members of the community, no matter their age or fitness, the opportunity to be able to experience the joy & feel good factor that doing fitness brings.

Fun fact: When I moved to Orkney, I started to play the fiddle again after a break of 35 years!"

Caroline, Orkney Dance and Fitness Volunteer

Meet Caroline, one of our volunteer directors. . .

"I volunteer at ODAF, because I want to help Donna achieve what she believes in. We have a lot of fun! ODAF brings people together and helps people to have fun whilst improving fitness and mobility.

Fun fact: I used to smash cars up banger racing!"

Tracy, Orkney Dance and Fitness Volunteer

Meet Tracy, our secretary and one of our directors...

"ODAF is fun and as well as keeping fit, the social side of the classes is vital for some people.  Apart from joining in the classes, I love helping out and volunteering.

Fun fact: I like a laugh and dancing!"

Donna, Orkney Dance and Fitness Volunteer

Meet Donna, our Creativer Director and founder of Orkney Dance and Fitness. . .

"I created ODAF for the community with a dream of it being run by the community for the community.

Fun fact: I used to be a singer/dancer and was a Butlins redcoat!"

We are so grateful for our team and for the wider ODAF community. We couldn’t do the work we do without our wonderful volunteers!
